Dance Amongst The Rubble is an exhibition of two halves, in contrast with each other that harmonize where the two exhibitions meet.

Dance and movement is an extension of a theme I explored in a few paintings from my most recent exhibition. Exploring the creative expression that is dance and movement with paint.
Why is it we feel compelled to express ourselves through movement and dance? Why is it we use our bodies as a vehicle to express the intangible, the abstract, to explore a primal urge to move in conjunction with beat and melody?
It is through movement and dance that we momentarily leave the constraints and hardships of our lives and communicate with the divine.

A collection of painted works will be displayed on top of temporary walls draped with fabric that will move subtly with the aid of small hidden fans. At the center of the room, a long continuous work painted depicting dance, blur, and movement will be wrapped around a rotating cylindrical structure. To accompany the painted works moving image will be projected on moving draped fabric as well as a deconstructed mural painted on large wooden panels incorporating draped fabric to add a cohesive element.

Rubble will explore works that play with the concept of urban decay, and the fragility of society, especially at this moment in time.
These works will explore the tension and juxtaposition between beauty/control (traditional oil painting of florals) and disrepair chaos (smashed concrete with wire inlay). The softness of the painted image and the rawness and industrial feel of the surface create a fascinating contrast that will draw viewers in.
I will also utilize other various industrial materials as substitutes for canvas using this process, to make the surface on which the painting is displayed is just as much a part of the artwork as the painting itself. Embedding the themes in a more holistic way, ultimately adding a layer of depth, meaning, and interest to my work, and in doing so making my audience aware of the fragility of our existence and society at large.
